Back to the good ol USA
After a long 15 hour flight, 4 hour flight to Dallas, and 4 hour flight to Newark, I finally arrived back in the good ol Jerz. My parents were waiting for me at the airport with a welcome home sign, balloons, and Panera. They know me too well. For about the first week, I didn’t leave my house. I don’t know if it was due to jetlag or depression, but I got a serious case of both. I would wake up at about 4 am every morning because that’s dinner time in Australia. It took a while for me to get used to the timing. Luckily I moved up to Hamden last week to move into my apartment at school. This has helped a lot since I am with all of my friends and life in the US is starting to feel fun again. Looking back on my experience in Australia, I honestly don’t even know where to begin. It is truly indescribable and an experience that only one can understand if they went through it. The only reason why I was so adamant about going abroad was to escape that life I was living at Quinnipiac. Through fighting with friends and having too much drama, that is why I mainly went away. I cannot thank my friends enough for all of that drama because if it didn’t happen, I probably wouldn’t have the best 5 months to brag about. I left a broken girl and returned not only pieced back together but stronger than I ever imagined I would be. Five months is a long time to be away from family, friends, and home, and it really forces you to realize who the true ‘you’ is. I know more about myself now and finally feel comfortable within my own body. My confidence, independence, and courage has risen to sky high levels. I don’t think I would have ever realized these strengths if it hadn’t been for a country half way around the world. Australia will always have my heart. No es adios, es hasta luego <3
